Heavenly beings gathered to invite the Bodhisattva to descend and become the Buddha.

Episode: The Gods Invite the Bodhisattva to Descend and Become the Buddha

Before attaining Buddhahood and liberating the world, the Bodhisattva perfected the Ten Perfections (Pāramīs) over many lifetimes:

1. Renunciation – Temiya: enduring suffering to renounce the world

2. Energy – Mahājanaka: supreme perseverance

3. Loving-kindness – Suvannasāma: boundless compassion

4. Determination – Nemiya: unwavering resolve

5. Wisdom – Mahosadha: deep insight

6. Morality – Bhuridatta: perfect ethical conduct

7. Patience – Candakumāra: supreme tolerance

8. Equanimity – Nārada: inner calm and impartiality

9. Truthfulness – Vidhura: unwavering truth

10. Generosity – Vessantara: ultimate selflessness

After these were fulfilled, gods across the ten-thousand worlds gathered and invited the Great Bodhisattva:

“O Noble One, your perfection is complete. Please descend into the human realm to save humanity and the heavenly beings.”

The Bodhisattva did not accept immediately. First, he surveyed five great factors: the world (continent), country, caste, family, and lifespan of the people.

Seeing all was favorable, he agreed to descend and was conceived in Queen Māyā of the Sakya royal lineage, in what is now India, thus beginning his final life before enlightenment.
